Connectivity problems between Initiator and Helper
Posted by Yoni Davidson on 05 January 2018 09:59 AM

Usually when there are connectivity issues between the Initiator Agent and Helper Agents,  the "failed to connect to port 31105 on…" message appears in the Build Monitor.

In most cases this is related to the Windows Firewall settings. If the relevant ports are opened, perhaps the procedure below should do the trick:

Adjusting the firewall in the case of no connectivity between Initiator and Helper Agents

  • Go to Windows Firewall with Advanced Settings
  • Select Inbound Rules.
  • Select Property settings of the IB Agent Service (and Helpers)
  • Select the Advanced tab.
  • Select Specify.
  • Specify which profiles the rule applies to.
  • This should be set to Private (Since some users reported that when it set to public, it causes the connectivity problem).

If there is ping between the Initiator and Helper but you still see the "failed to connect to port 31105 on…" message, please check if port 31105 is open. The easiest way would be to install Telnet on the Initiator machine and try connecting to port 31105 on the Helper machine. If this fails, please consult with your IT inorder to resolve this communication problem.
